Nanaimo First Aid
Enrolment and rates
Nanaimo First Aid offers the cheapest possible rates for all available classes. The fees are paid in full during enrolment so students don’t have to worry about tuition and expenses while training. The following are included in the total fees:
- Taxes
- Certificates and certification fees
- workplace approved training manuals
- Use of training equipment
Students who drop out are entitled to a full refund of the fees as long as a 72-hour notice is given beforehand. Enrolment can easily be completed using the registration form on the Nanaimo First Aid website or through e-mail or telephone calls. Enrolment in person during business hours are highly encouraged.
Certificates
Certificate cards are awarded to all students who are able to complete and pass a class. A good demonstration of skills, at least 75 percent on the written exam, and complete attendance are needed to pass a class. Students can request wall-mount certificates as well.
Recertification
The certificates are only valid for three years. Re-certification courses are not available for emergency childcare first aid and participants must re-take the course to renew their certification.

Childcare programs are completed in two days in a 16-20 hour course. The core curriculum covers basic first aid for infants, toddlers, and children, focusing on childhood injuries and illnesses. Students learn to manage different injuries such as bone, joint, head, and neck injuries. The students are also introduced to the basics of the emergency medical services (EMS) system, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED).

Students who have problems with class schedules and cannot enroll in any of the regular programs can book private training at Nanaimo First Aid. Instructors can be booked for special training at home or for company events like workshops and conferences.

First aid for puncture wounds
- With light pressure and a clean piece of cloth, gauze, or bandage, stem the bleeding of the wound. Seek additional medical assistance if bleeding continues for several minutes.
- Run clean water or sterile solution over the wound.
- If any particles are in the wound, use a piece of clean tweezers to remove them.
- Clean wound iodine solution (optional).
- Apply antibiotic ointment to the wound.
- Cover with a clean piece of gauze and bandage.
Watch out for: foul odor, yellow drainage (pus), and increasing pain
